“It feels like the kitchen we always hoped we'd have – calm, practical and somewhere our family naturally comes together.”

A Calm & Contemporary Family Kitchen
A full reconfiguration of a family kitchen, this Glebe Road project formed part of a wider side return extension and posed an opportunity to completely rethink how the space was used day to day.
The brief was clear from the outset: improve flow, maximise usability, and create a kitchen that felt calm, contemporary, and in keeping with the rest of the home. The clients were drawn to clean, minimal lines and a palette of muted tones, but with enough warmth and texture to avoid the space feeling flat.
The result is a kitchen that balances precision with softness. A central curved island anchors the room, introducing both movement and contrast against the otherwise linear layout. Fluted detailing adds a subtle rhythm, catching light and shadow throughout the day and bringing depth to the joinery.
Stylistically, the project sits somewhere between mid-century modern and retro-futuristic, with understated Japanese and Scandinavian influences shaping the overall feel - considered, tactile, and quietly confident.
Materials
Material choices were key to achieving this balance. Walnut brings richness and warmth, paired with Foresso ‘no-chip’ worktop, an innovative, sustainable material made from industrial by-products. Cabinet finishes in ARPA’s Avorio Cisa offer a soft, neutral counterpoint, while a matt wax oil finish enhances the natural grain and texture of the timber.
Sustainability remained an important thread throughout, with FSC-certified materials specified as standard and a conscious effort to incorporate lower-impact products wherever possible.
The Outcome
Despite wider build project delays (outside of our control), the installation itself progressed smoothly, resulting in a calm, considered kitchen designed not only to be admired, but to be lived in for years to come.
