Scandinavian Family Kitchen

This project involved the design, manufacture and installation of a fully bespoke kitchen within a new side return extension in a Southville family home. The brief focused on making thoughtful, efficient use of the available space, improving flow between the kitchen, dining and living areas while creating a room that could adapt easily between everyday family life and entertaining.

A sense of calm and balance guided the design throughout. Drawing on quiet luxury and Scandinavian influences, the kitchen is defined by soft curves, a neutral palette and natural materials, allowing the space to feel warm, considered and light-filled rather than overly formal.

Large radiused corners and gently curved veneer panels soften the overall layout, while fluted detailing adds texture and depth without overwhelming the space. Functional zones were carefully integrated, including a bespoke wine cupboard within the island and a dedicated coffee station designed as its own moment within the kitchen. A slide and hide door allows the coffee area to be concealed when not in use, supporting a clean, uncluttered feel.

Materials

Material choices were key to achieving both durability and warmth. Walnut cabinetry is paired with subtle laminate tones and tactile surfaces, creating contrast while maintaining cohesion. Sustainability was also an important consideration, with FSC-certified timber used throughout and recycled materials incorporated where possible.

The Outcome

The completed kitchen brings a sense of calm and clarity to the heart of the home, balancing thoughtful design with everyday practicality. Carefully considered proportions, soft curves and natural materials create a space that feels warm, open and easy to move through, supporting both family life and entertaining without compromise.
