“When you hear the phrase ‘1960’s Milanese café’ during the initial brief, you know the end result is going to be out of the ordinary.”

Colourful Retro Kitchen

Referencing a 1960s Milanese café from the outset, this project was always set to be expressive and full of personality. Working closely with the client, we translated their love of colour and mid-century design into a kitchen that feels playful, confident and entirely unique.

Inset stained birch plywood doors set within crisp white surrounds create a strong architectural framework, subtly nodding to modernist influences. Bold colour choices were layered throughout the space, from the vibrant worktops and fridge fronts to the striking yellow wall cabinetry, bringing energy and warmth to the overall scheme.

Making the most of the generous ceiling height, a suspended gantry and bespoke drinks cabinet introduce stainless steel and reeded glass elements, adding texture and vertical interest while clearly defining the kitchen within the wider living area.

Materials

Inset stained birch plywood doors with white surrounds, a nod to Le Corbusier, established a distinctively mid-century feel in the space. Pops of colour from the Hi-Macs worktops and fridge doors were added to compliment the strong yellow laminate in the wall cupboard doors.

The Outcome

The completed kitchen is lively, characterful and unapologetically individual. Balancing bold colour with structured design, the space feels joyful. It’s a kitchen that invites conversation, creativity and everyday use, while celebrating the client’s distinctive vision.
